VENT: My ex's new guy is coaching our son and I wasn't consulted

Found out through our 8yo that his mom's boyfriend is the new assistant coach for his baseball team. I have NOTHING against the guy - don't even know him - but like... maybe run something like that by me first? My son will be with this person regularly.

I'm trying to be cool about it but I'm seething. She made a parenting decision involving another adult in my kid's life without mentioning it. If I did this she'd lose her mind.

She'll say I'm being controlling if I bring it up. So I'm just sitting on it. Fun times.

Before you blow up at your ex, maybe observe a practice and see how the guy actually is with the kids. That'll give you real info instead of just speculation.

I'd be frustrated too. Even if the guy is great with the kids, the lack of communication is disrespectful to your role as a parent. How did you find out?

This is the kind of thing that should come up in coparenting conversations even if they're awkward. Your son deserves to know you're okay with someone in his life like that.

That's a tough position. The fact that you weren't told about it beforehand is the bigger issue here, not necessarily the guy coaching. That's a conversation that needed to happen first.
