Weird win: my 11yo asked to stay the extra weekend with me

Nothing crazy but during the pandemic she barely wanted to be here. Now she's like "dad can I stay both weekends this month?" Obviously I checked with her mom first and it's fine. Just feels good that she actually wants to hang out with me. Small moment but these are the ones that matter, you know?

That's genuinely huge man. The pandemic hit shared custody pretty hard for a lot of kids. The fact that she's coming around shows she trusts you and actually likes being there now.

How old was she when the pandemic hit? That age range had to be the worst for custody situations. Weird that kids can shift their feelings so much once they're a bit older though.

11 is such a key age too. They're starting to want to be around people instead of just being dragged places. The fact that she actively asked to stay says you've built something real.

This is the stuff that matters way more than a tournament win or a school achievement. Your kid choosing to spend time with you is everything.

Don't downplay this as 'not crazy'. That is legitimately the win that matters. My 10yo is just starting to reach this point and I'm riding that high hard.
