My 2 year old has learned how to unbuckle his car seat. Been practicing my 'dad voice' telling him to stay buckled but he just laughs. Asked a buddy for advice and he said his kid did the same thing. Why don't they make these things toddler proof? It's literally the one thing I need to stay impossible and it's becoming possible. This is what parenting is really about nobody tells you.
Two year olds think the rules are just suggestions. Mine tried something similar and I basically had to get creative with how I explained why staying buckled keeps him safe. The stern voice only works so far.
Oh man, the escape artist phase is real. My buddy who works at the fire station is basically a car seat ninja now, might be worth asking someone like that for actual tips on keeping them secure.
This is legitimately one of the scariest things kids learn to do. Mine figured it out at a red light once and I about had a heart attack. The dad voice definitely helps though - that firm 'we don't do that in the car' tone seems to register.
Oh no, the car seat escape artist phase. My 2 year old did the same thing last month. I started making it a game where he gets a sticker for KEEPING it buckled the whole ride. Might sound silly but the sticker chart method works miracles.
Did you try the ones that have the cover on them? My oldest couldn't figure his out until he was like 4. Game changer for the 2 year old chaos phase.

That laugh when they know they're being silly is hilarious but also terrifying right? I'd definitely get advice on this one since safety is no joke, but yeah the dad voice usually doesn't cut it at that age.
