Nothing beats that sound of your kid's combined groan when you hit them with a good dad joke. Like today my 10 year old asked what time it was and I said 'time to get a watch' and the whole family just stared at me. But I saw the corners of his mouth twitch. He was fighting the laugh. I know I got him.
That groan is pure gold. My 8yo now preemptively covers her ears when she sees me getting ready to drop a joke. It's beautiful.
The groan is everything. I live for that collective sigh and eye roll from my kids. It's like the ultimate validation that I've peaked as a dad. The worse the joke, the better the reaction.
Yes! There's something deeply satisfying about getting that perfectly orchestrated groan. My daughter now preemptively covers her ears when I open my mouth, which somehow makes the jokes even better.
I'm still working up to that kind of comedic power but I can already see how amazing that must feel. That's the endgame right there - they groan but they remember the jokes forever.
