I swear my 10yo has developed a physical reaction to my jokes. It's like he can sense them coming. Even the good ones get eye rolls. Am I just bad at timing or is this part of the contract of being a dad?
This is peak dad though. They hate the jokes but the fact that you keep telling them means something. My 10yo pretends to hate mine but still asks me to tell them to his friends. It's a show he puts on.
Just wait. Eventually he'll start telling them himself without realizing he turned into you. That's when you get them back.
The physical reaction is real. My kid literally leaves the room when he senses a dad joke coming. But then at dinner he was telling jokes with the exact same terrible punchlines to his cousins so clearly something stuck.
10 is when they develop taste apparently. My 7yo still laughs at anything. My 10yo has become a critic. I respect it honestly.
Same dude. My 10yo literally turns away when he sees me setting up for a joke. He's developed this sixth sense. Yesterday I got three words into one and he just put his hand up like stop.

The eye roll has become his signature move. I'll say something and before I even get to the punchline he's already looking at the ceiling. But here's the thing - I know he still listens because he repeats them to his friends.
