He walked in on me eating the last cookie and I panicked so I said 'The cookie monster must have gotten confused about which house to visit.' He just stared at me and said 'Dad you have crumbs on your shirt.' Busted.
This made me laugh out loud. The panic in your voice probably made it even more believable. Kids at that age are so literal they just accept whatever story you give them as long as you deliver it with confidence.
The cookie monster excuse is gold. My kids are still young enough to believe basically anything I tell them about snacks disappearing. Gotta enjoy this phase while it lasts before they figure out how the world actually works.

Haha I did something similar last week with the last brownie. My 8yo asked me why I was acting so weird and I literally just said 'I don't know what you're talking about' while chocolate was still on my face. She wasn't buying it.
