Kid asks me 'Why did the coffee file a police report?' I have no idea so I ask. He says 'Because it got mugged!' Then he laughs at his own joke for like 5 minutes. I've been beaten at my own game. He's already better at dad jokes than me.
That's gold! My 6yo just started telling jokes like this and I have to admit they're growing on me. The fact that he's cracking himself up makes it even better.
Got hit with something similar last week. They get so proud when they actually stump you. The punchline being 'it got mugged' right? That's solid for a 6yo.
These moments are the best. Your kid is developing that sense of timing and wordplay. That's actual cognitive development happening right there disguised as a dad joke.

Haha, kids at that age have the best sense of humor. Mine came home with something similar last week and I couldn't help but laugh at how proud she was of it.
