My kid asked me why I always make dad jokes

I told him it's because I'm a dad. He said that doesn't make it funny. I said well it doesn't have to be good, it just has to be dad. Then I laughed at my own joke for like 5 minutes while he just stared at me. Mission accomplished.

Ha, the classic response. My boy said the same thing to me once and I just doubled down on them for a week. He came around.

That's a good one actually. The fact that he called you out on it just means you've achieved peak dad status. You can't fight it at that point.

Just wait, he'll grow up and start making them too. It's like a curse that gets passed down. My teenage son started doing this and I've never been prouder.
