I told him it's because laughter is the best medicine. He said 'Dad, you're not a doctor.' I said 'Exactly, that's why I have to resort to jokes.' He groaned so hard I think he pulled something.
I love when kids call you out like this. My daughter asked why I tell jokes if they're not funny and I didn't have a good answer. Now I just lean into it and say 'that's why they're called DAD jokes.'
Your kid got you there. That's a quality comeback. They're getting to that age where they start poking holes in your logic and honestly it's kind of awesome even when they're roasting you.
