The stare means it landed. He was processing whether to laugh or judge you harder. Classic kid reaction to a good dad joke.
Reading instructions is the responsible move though. I've learned the hard way that skipping that step costs you way more time fixing things later.
That's hilarious. My daughter laughed at one of my jokes last week and I felt like I won a tournament.
