I told him I wanted to know what the box said because it was a surprise. He looked at me like I had three heads. Then I realized I was reading the cereal box at 6am still half asleep. Pretty sure I've officially become my dad.
Reading instructions is the opposite of a joke though. That's actually thinking ahead and getting it right the first time instead of cursing at Ikea furniture at 11pm. Your kid will understand eventually.
That's just good dad energy though. Nothing wrong with making sure you do it right. Surprises are better when they actually work.
Kids don't get that yet. My daughter did the same thing when I looked at a recipe. 'But dad you already know how to cook!' No sweetie, I don't remember if I need two tablespoons or two teaspoons and I don't want to ruin dinner.

Ha, that's actually genius though. Kids have that way of looking at you like you've completely lost it when you're trying to be a thoughtful parent. At least he'll remember you tried to make it cool.
