My wife asked me why I keep making terrible puns around the kids. I told her it's because it's a playing field and you gotta work with what you got. She left the room. I'll be here all week probably because I'm in the doghouse now.
The best part is when your kids realize the jokes are bad and they start groaning. That's when you know you're doing parenting right. The puns never stop, they just get worse as they get older.
It's totally a play for attention. But also it's legitimately one of the best parts of having kids - you get to be weird and corny and they think it's hilarious or they hate it, either way it's entertaining. Your wife will come around.

Your wife clearly doesn't understand the sacred duty of the dad joke. It's practically a rite of passage. I make terrible puns constantly and my kids have learned to either groan or just ignore me. Character building either way.
