Tried to make a joke during dinner while running on like 4 hours of sleep from being up with the baby all night. Made absolutely zero sense and everyone just stared at me. Wife said 'Are you okay?' Nope, just dad humor powered by sleep deprivation. It's a specific genre that only lands when you're dead inside.

I feel this in my soul. Running on fumes makes everything harder, including trying to keep things light. Hang in there, this stage passes and eventually you'll be able to make jokes AND get sleep again.

4 hours of sleep is insane. I remember those days with the newborn and yeah, the jokes do NOT land the same way. My wife just stared at me after I tried to make a pun at like 2am. She was not amused.

The worst part is your brain knows the joke is funny but you're too tired to deliver it right. Timing is everything with humor and exhaustion kills it every single time.
