Punny lunch notes backfired

Started putting terrible puns in my kids' lunch boxes to embarrass them. Now the oldest one is making puns back at me and I don't know how to feel about it. On one hand I'm proud. On the other hand I've created a monster. His last note said 'Dad your jokes are un-be-leaf-able' with a leaf drawing. I hate how much I loved it.

Your oldest is creating their own lunch box puns now? That's actually kind of beautiful. You taught them dad jokes aren't meant to embarrass, they're just a language we speak as fathers.
The embarrassment was never really the point anyway, right? You were just creating a connection and now they're carrying that forward. That's parenting done right.
