Do your kids actually groan at your jokes or do they just not laugh? Mine don't even acknowledge them anymore. Like I'll say something objectively hilarious and my 8 year old just stares at me with zero emotion. Is this what my future holds? Total comedic irrelevance?
This is the natural order of dad jokes. The groan comes later when they're teenagers and self conscious. Right now at 8 they're just confused about why you're laughing at your own jokes.
Mine are at that age too and they've mastered the dead stare. Zero reaction no matter what I say. I've accepted that my job is to make dad jokes whether they appreciate it or not.
Keep going with the jokes. When they're older they'll actually appreciate the commitment to the bit, even if they won't admit it now.
Don't let it kill your vibe though. The best dad jokes are the ones you're confident in even if nobody laughs. That's like 90 percent of the comedy right there.

That's the age where they're becoming self aware but not self aware enough to realize jokes are funny on their own. They think groaning at dad jokes is like a required rite of passage. Give it a few years.
The silence is worse than the groan honestly. At least a groan means they heard it and are processing that it was bad. The stare is just devastating.
