Took my 6yo to the grocery store and he asked why some cereals have prizes inside. I said 'Because they're looking for a cereal killer.' He didn't get it but my wife did and she gave me that look. Worth it.

That's a solid dad joke right there, even if he didn't get it yet. He'll repeat it to his friends in a few years and think he's a comedic genius.

I've definitely tried jokes like that with my boys and gotten the same blank stare. They're at that age where they just want to know if the cereal tastes good, not the backstory.

That's perfect. My kids don't get half my jokes either but I keep throwing them out there anyway. Gotta plant the seeds early for future eye rolls.
