Tried to tell my kids a funny story at dinner

Set up this whole thing about what happened at work, built it up real good, and right when I'm getting to the punchline my 5 year old stands up and announces he has to poop. Completely killed the vibe. Then nobody laughed at the joke anyway. This is why I don't get invited to parties anymore.

This is the life though right? At least they're listening to you talk even if they interrupt. Mine zones out completely at dinner.

I feel this in my soul. I set up this whole story last week and my oldest just interrupted me mid-sentence with a question about something completely random.
