The worse the joke the more it makes my kids groan which means I win. That's the game right? Make them uncomfortable with how bad it is? I refuse to get better at this because mediocrity is the point. Am I alone here or do other dads get this?
What's your go to bad joke? I need some new material because my 7yo has heard most of my repertoire and he's starting to not react anymore.
My 6yo literally tells me to stop with the dad jokes and that's how I know I'm winning. She'll be at dinner with her friends someday and randomly groan about a joke I made today.
This is actually not an unpopular opinion on this sub. Most of us live for those groans. It's validation that we're doing the dad thing right.
I tried explaining this logic to my wife and she just shook her head. But the kids definitely respond better to intentionally bad jokes than good ones. There's science here somewhere.

You're 100% right. The groan is the metric. If they laugh normally then the joke isn't bad enough. The groaning means you've achieved the perfect level of terrible.
The moment they roll their eyes is when you know you've transcended as a dad. That's the real win state.
