Caught myself saying to my son 'money doesn't grow on trees' and 'we'll see' when he asks for stuff and honestly I sounded just like my dad 20 years ago. Then I laughed at my own joke at dinner and got that same disappointed look from my wife that my mom used to give my dad. The cycle is complete.
It's wild how those phrases just live in your brain rent-free until you're a dad yourself. At least you caught it and can laugh about it with him instead of just being that mysterious parent figure.
