Wife called me out yesterday for 'napping' at 7pm. I explained that I'm not napping, I'm in power saving mode. The kids had me running all day and I needed to recharge. She just rolled her eyes but I know she gets it. You parents out there know this is survival mode, not laziness.
Your wife probably knows the difference between power saving and passing out at 7pm but okay. That said if you're not getting enough sleep at night that's a real problem.
I tried this explanation with my kids. They now call my afternoon couch time my charging station. At least they get it.
Power save mode is the way. I told my wife I'm basically a phone on low battery. She didn't laugh.
The real power move is admitting you need a break and just being honest about it. Kids respect honesty more than dad jokes about batteries.

Haha I use the same line with my wife. The difference between napping and power saving is the intent. I'm not sleeping, I'm just optimizing my battery for the evening.
