Spent all day Saturday building a sandbox in the backyard. Nothing fancy, just some treated wood, landscape fabric, and sand but the kids have barely left it since. My 4yo has been out there for like 3 hours this morning already. Cost maybe 80 bucks and 6 hours of work but totally worth it for the p...
My 5 year old watches YouTube Kids and I've noticed some of the recommended videos are getting pretty strange lately. Like, they start innocent enough with nursery rhymes but then recommend these weird knockoff videos with characters acting out bizarre scenarios. Has anyone else dealt with this? Sho...
Just started watching The Office and I'm obsessed. My wife's been saying it's the best show ever for like 5 years and I kept brushing it off. Now I get it. Already on season 3. This is dangerous because I should be doing yard work but instead I'm watching Michael Scott mess everything up.
Took me like 6 months but I finally got my workbench built in the garage. Its not fancy but its mine. Got my tools all organized, good lighting, even got one of those magnetic strips for the screwdrivers. Spent 3 hours out there last weekend just organizing everything and honestly it felt amazing. N...
Long story short, the promotion I was going for went to someone else. A year ago I would have been devastated. But today? I'm kind of relieved. The job would have meant 15 more hours a week and more travel. My kids are only gonna be young once. My wife looked at me and just said 'good.' Weird feelin...
Why do my bosses always decide to send urgent emails right at bedtime? I'm trying to read stories to my 4 year old and my phone keeps buzzing. Told my team I'm off at 6pm but apparently that doesn't stick. Anyone have success setting boundaries with their workplace or am I just supposed to accept th...
Just wanted to post something positive here since this forum is usually full of conflict stories. My ex and I have been doing 50/50 for 18 months now and honestly it's been one of the best decisions we made. We use a shared calendar app, we text about stuff respectfully, and our kids see both of us ...
Want to try smoking a pork shoulder tomorrow for the first time. Do I need one of those fancy pellet smokers or can I make it work with a regular charcoal grill? Also how long does this usually take? Trying to impress the wife and not screw it up. Any go-to rubs or sauces that are actually easy to m...
Just finished episode 3 and wow they're really going there this season. Not gonna spoil anything but if you liked the earlier seasons you gotta catch up. Only downside is trying to watch anything longer than 20 mins before the kids wake up from naps lol.
Just started it and it's scratching an itch I didn't know I had. My wife is making fun of me but honestly the nostalgia is hitting different when you're actually a dad now. Watching them party and be stupid just reminds me how lucky I am to be past that phase.
Got my 12yo their first iPhone and I want to lock it down properly without being crazy about it. Tried Apple's built in Screen Time but it feels clunky. Someone mentioned OurPact or Life360 but I'm not sure if those are overkill. What do you guys use? I want to be able to see what they're doing but ...
Took the kids on a beginner trail at state park on Sunday. Did zero planning because I'm an idiot. Brought one water bottle for three people, forgot snacks, and my 6yo decided halfway through that her legs didn't work anymore. Had to carry her on my shoulders for like a mile while my 10yo complained...
Wife and I are fighting about screen time. She lets our daughter use the ipad way more than I'm comfortable with. Daughter gets absolutely unglued when we take it away. We don't have a consistent rule so sometimes she gets it during meals and sometimes she doesn't. I think we're setting her up for b...
Baby is 3 weeks old and my wife is dealing with postpartum depression. She's not sleeping even when the baby sleeps, just crying a lot, not interested in anything. I'm trying to take the baby at night so she can rest but she seems worse than before. I feel helpless. Her mom suggested she just needs ...
Been WFH for 2 years now and it's great for productivity but man, I'm feeling really isolated. I go days barely talking to anyone except my coworkers over video calls and my wife. I don't have close friends nearby anymore since the move and I'm starting to feel the effects. Getting depressed, not mo...
