Got one of those doorway pull-up bars from Amazon ($35, 10/10 would recommend) and managed to do 8 actual pull-ups today. Haven't been able to do that since college. My 9yo daughter was like "Dad you're getting ripped" and honestly? That might've been the best compliment I've received all year. Smal...
My 4yo watches Bluey constantly and now she plays exactly like they do on the show. Structured imaginative play, actually talking it out, not just screaming nonsense. It's genuinely impressive. But also now when I mess up the games she calls me out like "Dad, you're supposed to be doing the objectiv...
Signed up my 8yo for a pottery class thinking it'd be this cool creative outlet thing. First class he glazed his mug purple and blue (clashing, not intentional) and then when it came back from the kiln it broke in the middle because apparently he didn't center it right. He was SO upset and now refus...
Our kids have rejected literally every chicken nugget brand we've bought EXCEPT Tyson Air Fried from Costco. Not even joking, we've tried Perdue, store brand, the fancy organic ones from the fancy grocery store. Nope. Only Tyson. Do I feel silly that I'm now the guy who has strong opinions about chi...
Like every single day. "Why do we have to die?" "What happens when we dream?" "If I think about thinking am I thinking?" It's actually amazing but also I'm running out of answers that don't sound stupid. Anyone got good resources or am I overthinking this?
Real talk - some evenings I just sit at my desk until 6:30pm because I can't face sitting in traffic AND then immediately being "on" as a parent. Is that terrible? My commute is 45 min normally but crawls. Staying late gives me decompression time but feels dishonest?
Looking for something for my 7 and 10 year old. I want them exposed to coding but not in a boring way. We tried Code.org at home and it felt too much like homework. Been hearing good things about Scratch and Codecademy but wanted to know if anyone here has actually used those with their kids and wha...
We just started using it for communication and the shared calendar. It's kinda great tbh - no more miscommunications about pickup times and I have everything documented if we ever go back to court. App could be faster but the features are solid. $120/year is annoying but way cheaper than having figh...
Need something flat, no traffic, about 5-7 miles round trip. My daughter just got confident enough to ride without training wheels (she's 6) and I don't want to stress her out with car traffic yet. Ride it this weekend if anyone has a good suggestion!
Wanting to actually work out without paying for a gym membership or leaving the house at 5am to go to CrossFit before the kids wake up. The Peloton price tag is killing me though ($2k+) and I'm worried it'll become an expensive clothes rack like that Nordic Track. Are there good alternatives? Should...
Unpopular opinion but I'm convinced the algorithm is designed to addict kids. Every 15 seconds a new video, easy scrolling, no friction. Compared to YouTube where you at least have to click on the next video. My nephew (he's 11) was getting worse anxiety and sleep issues and his mom cut TikTok and w...
I keep seeing people talk about side hustles like it's just... a thing you do. But where do you find the TIME? My wife and I are both working full-time, we have a 5yo and a 2yo, and by 8pm I'm literally falling asleep on the couch. I had this idea for a freelance writing thing but I can't even imagi...
I've been holding it together pretty well but last week I yelled at my 5yo over spilled milk and then just sat in my car crying for 10 minutes. I'm doing full-time work, my wife just went part-time so I need to be the primary income, we have three kids under 8, and I haven't had a real break in 18 m...
Nothing fancy - just pancakes the kids made (with her supervision obviously), some bacon, coffee. But the effort? The kids made little cards. My youngest drew a picture of me that's... honestly unrecognizable but that's part of the charm. We don't talk about this stuff enough but man, it hits differ...
Been tracking all shared expenses (activities, medical, school stuff) in OFW and at the end of the month I send her an itemized breakdown. Before I was just... eating costs and seething about it. Now it's all documented and we can actually split things fairly without the awkwardness. Sounds boring b...
