Been slowly taking over the garage on weekends to set up a real woodworking space. Built shelves, organized tools, set up a workbench. The compromise is I have to keep the front half clear for cars but I finally have space to actually make stuff instead of working on the driveway. Already finished t...
Took the crew camping in the state forest about an hour away. Looked great on the map but turned out to be more of a test of patience than a relaxing getaway. One kid got sick, it rained harder than expected, and the cooler somehow fell in the creek. But here's the thing - we made it work, the kids ...
We were at the grocery store and an older lady told us how well behaved our kids were while waiting in line. They actually sat there quietly without complaining. My wife and I looked at each other like did that really just happen? Made us feel like we're doing something right for once.
Looking for recommendations for a good breakfast place that doesn't break the bank. Preferably somewhere that doesn't take forever to get seated on weekends. My usual spot got way too crowded lately.
Three months longer than I planned but it's done. Pressure treated pine, proper footings, and I made sure every board is level. Spent last weekend staining it with the boys helping out. My wife cried when she saw it finished, which made the whole thing worth it. Planning to build some planter boxes ...
Finally getting my parents to watch the baby for 4 hours Saturday afternoon. My wife and I are going to grab lunch and just walk around without carrying a diaper bag. Might hit up that new brewery downtown. What's everyone else doing? Anyone else have plans that don't involve kids for once?
Work 50+ hours a week and by the time I'm home I'm beat. Kids are in bed, wife is tired from solo parenting all day, and I'm basically a ghost in the house. Don't have friends in my new city and honestly I feel pretty alone even though I'm surrounded by people. Anyone figured out how to build a soci...
Been going to therapy for like two months now for anxiety and depression. My therapist seems nice enough but I don't feel like we're really connecting. I keep telling myself to give it more time but part of me wonders if I'm just wasting money. How many sessions did it take before you felt like ther...
My boy is 6 weeks old and still pretty much just eats and sleeps. I keep waiting for that moment where he actually looks at me and smiles and I feel like we're bonding. Right now it feels one-sided. When did you guys start feeling like your kids recognized you? Is it weird that I'm impatient for thi...
Set up this whole thing about what happened at work, built it up real good, and right when I'm getting to the punchline my 5 year old stands up and announces he has to poop. Completely killed the vibe. Then nobody laughed at the joke anyway. This is why I don't get invited to parties anymore.
Starting around 2-3pm every day I just get this weird anxious feeling in my chest. Nothing's even happening, I'm at work just doing my job, but suddenly I feel like something bad is gonna happen. Has been going on for like 3 months now. Started going to therapy last month and my therapist says it's ...
My son asked me why I'm always on my phone. I said I'm working. He goes 'no you're not, you're scrolling and laughing at memes.' Can't even argue with that logic. That's my parenting moment for the week where I realize my kids see through all my BS.
Tried to use TikTok slang in front of my teenagers today. Said something was 'bussin' and they just stared at me in complete silence. Then my 14 year old whispered to his sister 'why is dad like this.' I am no longer allowed to attempt youth culture. Accepting my old man status now.
Found out through my daughter that mom's new boyfriend came to a family dinner last weekend. We've only been separated for 6 months and this guy apparently stayed over. I don't want to be that guy but I'm not comfortable with some random dude having that much access to my kids this early. We don't h...
Went back to school while working full time and raising two teenagers. Took 5 years but got my degree in software engineering. Now I'm making almost double what I was as a carpenter. The kids watched me struggle through calculus at 2am and now they actually study harder. I miss the physical work som...
