Been saying for two years I'd go fishing more often. Well this spring I finally bit the bullet and got a decent rod and reel setup. Managed to get out twice already this season, once solo and once with my oldest who's finally getting interested. Caught a few decent bass, nothing huge but that's not ...
Weber Genesis from like 2008 just quit on me. Been a solid grill for 15 years but the burner is shot and it's gonna cost almost as much to fix as a new one. Part of me is attached to it since I've made so many meals on there but also maybe it's time for an upgrade? Anyone have experience with this d...
Spent the last month planning and building a treehouse in our oak tree with my son helping every step of the way. We bought the hardware kit online but he did most of the sawing and hammering with supervision. Last Saturday we had the grand opening and watching his face when he climbed up there and ...
Stay at home parent here and some days the isolation gets to me bad. Wife works full time, kids are 2 and 5, and by 3pm I'm basically just waiting for another adult to talk to. Had a breakdown last week where I realized I hadn't had a real conversation with another grown up in like 5 days. Joined a ...
My dad taught me that a handshake is your bond. You don't need contracts or lawyers if you're a man of integrity. I'm trying to instill this in my boy, now 16. He made a commitment to his grandmother that he'd help her with yard work every Saturday. One Saturday he wanted to bail to hang with friend...
Started my weight loss journey about 18 months ago at 225lbs. Wanted to be able to keep up with my kids. Now I'm at 185 and run a 5k three times a week. Honestly the physical transformation is cool but the mental shift is wild. I used to avoid mirrors. Now I catch myself actually looking at myself a...
I don't know if this is normal but I've been having these panic attacks where I just think about my 8 year old and his future. What if he doesn't do well in school? What if he can't get a good job? What if something bad happens to him? My wife says I'm catastrophizing but it feels so real in the mom...
Wanted to post something positive for once. My ex and I had our worst year last year but we finally got into a groove. We have a shared calendar, text updates, and honestly laugh together sometimes when picking up the kids. It took a lot of work and therapy but it's so much better for everyone. If y...
Every kid in his class apparently has it. I'm not ready for this. He's been arguing that he's old enough and other parents are fine with it. I don't love the idea of my elementary schooler scrolling through an infinite feed but is this one of those things where I'm being too strict? What's the polic...
So I told my son 'you're driving me crazy' and he goes 'good thing you're already parked in the driveway.' I just sat there. That's my material. He's weaponizing my own jokes against me and I've never been more proud.
Just got the text that she's looking at jobs and places further out. Our current agreement is we both stay within the school district. I don't want to be that guy but if she moves that basically kills my time with the kids on weekdays. Should I be proactive about this legally or try to talk to her f...
Been struggling with this lately. My kids are 8 and 11 and I feel like they're just going through the motions at dinner prayers. I want them to actually develop their own relationship with God instead of just doing what dad says. Started letting them lead prayers sometimes and ask them genuine quest...
My wife is upstairs reading and the kids are finally asleep so I'm just on the couch with a cold one watching Jim and Pam for what feels like the millionth time. I've seen every episode and I still laugh. There's something comforting about a show you know inside and out. This is peak dad life right ...
A gummy bear. My 4 year old laughed so hard she spit out her juice. Worth it.
He heard someone had stolen a base. My 6 year old groaned so loud the neighbors asked if we were okay. That's when you know you've succeeded as a dad.
