Found a whole set of old Snap-On wrenches and screwdrivers at the estate sale last month for like 40 bucks. Been slowly restoring them because they're actually pretty nice quality. Got me thinking about collecting older tools as an actual hobby. There's something cool about using something that's be...
Just realized Thanksgiving is 8 months away and I'm already thinking about it because my ex likes to plan early (which, fine, I get it). We don't have anything officially written down for holidays beyond Christmas. Should I be the one to bring this up or wait for her? I want to make sure I get some...
Does anyone do a flexible pickup schedule? Our custody order says Friday at 5pm but sometimes my ex has to work late and sometimes I'm running behind. Should we just keep swapping the specific time or does that create problems down the road? Seems easier than being rigid but idk if flexibility witho...
Quick win! My son was complaining about being "bored" and just wanted to watch YT all day. Signed him up for CodeCombat (free version first, works great) and he's actually engaged. It's a game but he's learning real Python syntax without realizing it. Plus it only lets you play for like 45 min befor...
Never thought I'd see the day. Negotiated into a senior manager role that's 95% remote with maybe 1 week/month travel instead of the typical 4-5 weeks. They actually valued my request to be present for my kids' stuff. Starting next month. Told the kids yesterday and my 9yo said "Dad this is the be...
My 5yo has been using Khan Academy Kids for about 3 months now and it's genuinely the best thing we've found. It's not flashy, it's not addictive, but it actually teaches concepts and my son ENJOYS it. Does math and reading practice without fighting us about it. No ads, no in-app purchases, super ch...
Real talk: I get frustrated with myself when I'm working on a project with my kids and I'm not being "present" enough. Like my 7yo will be building something and I'll get distracted thinking about work or whatever, and then I feel guilty. But also he doesn't even notice?? He's just doing his thing? ...
Our daughter went from sleeping 10-12 hours straight to waking up every 2-3 hours. Started about a week ago. I googled it and apparently this is the "4 month sleep regression" except she's 6 months old so maybe it's late? Either way we're absolutely wrecked. Last night I fell asleep holding her bott...
Thought I could handle getting my 4yo out on the water in a tandem kayak. He wasn't interested in paddling, just wanted to throw rocks. Well, guess what genius here didn't bring a life vest that actually fit him because we were in a RUSH. He nearly went in off the dock trying to grab a duck and I ag...
I'll start: impromptu road trips. No planning, just throw some cash in your wallet and drive wherever sounds cool that day. Now everything needs a 3 week advance notice and a diaper bag the size of a suitcase.
I know I'm late to the party but just started playing it with a buddy of mine from high school. We play for like an hour after the kids go to bed most nights. Still pretty rusty but had a solid match yesterday where I went 18 and 7. Not bad for someone who mainly plays single player games. Feels goo...
Got back into collecting in the last year and I'm up to about 200 issues now. Some are raw, some are in slabs. Keeping them in my man cave but I'm worried about moisture and UV light. Should I get those acid free bags for the raw books? And what's the best way to organize without going crazy?
Got a job offer in Denver. It's a huge opportunity - like 40% raise - but I have 50/50 custody in California. My ex will absolutely say no to me moving with the kids. Do I have any leg to stand on here legally? Is this something I need a lawyer for? I haven't accepted the job yet and honestly I'm t...
I know this is selfish and I know kids have preferences. My wife is the primary parent and that makes sense. But damn, it still hurts when my 5yo asks for mom when he's hurt, or when my 3yo gets excited about something and runs to tell her first. I'm present, I'm involved, I do bedtime and baths, bu...
Honest question. Daycare is $1900/month, we cut back where we can, but I'm constantly thinking about whether we're making enough. My wife makes $65k, I make $78k. We're in Denver so cost of living is getting crazy. Some months we're tight. Anyone else living paycheck-to-paycheck even with dual incom...
