Been collecting for about 15 years now and finally passed 500. Not even trying to sell them just love having the collection. Set up proper shelving in the basement and everything looks clean. My kids already said they don't want it when I'm gone which is hilarious.
My 4yo has been testing boundaries all week and yesterday I absolutely lost it over him not putting his shoes on. Like, I went from 0 to 100 in seconds and I scared him. Now I feel like absolute garbage about it. This is the second time this month I've snapped like that. My wife says I need to "mana...
Remember my post from 2 weeks ago about fighting for Thanksgiving? We went to mediation and my ex agreed to switch it up. So for the first time in 3 years I get the kids Wed-Sun for the holiday. Already planning to make my grandma's stuffing recipe - the kids barely remember it since they usually sp...
My 8 year old scored the winning goal and his first instinct was to look at me in the stands and cross himself. Then after the game he said he wanted to thank Jesus for helping him play well. I'm not gonna lie I had tears in my eyes. This is what it's all about. He's growing up knowing that his tale...
We went for a walk and collected leaves, sticks, rocks, whatever. Let the kids glue them onto poster board to make scenes. My 5yo made an "insect city" and the 8yo did a landscape. Honestly looked cool, cost basically nothing, kept them occupied for hours, and didn't destroy the house. Pinning this ...
Sharing because I see a lot of people struggling with this setup. My schedule (wife takes earlier shift so I have mornings): - 6:30am wake up, prep my stuff - 7-9am: Kid watches cartoons, I handle first batch of emails - 9am-12:30pm: Daycare (mom's helper lady from neighborhood) - 12:30-1:30pm: Lun...
Was in a meeting about budget cuts and my brain just short-circuited. Felt my chest tighten, started sweating, had to excuse myself. Spent 10 mins in the bathroom trying to breathe normally. No one noticed but I felt humiliated. This is the second time this has happened in 3 months. I think I need t...
Context: I've been remote for 2 years since my second kid was born. I negotiated this hard and it's been the only thing keeping me from losing my mind. Now my manager is pushing for "at least 3 days in office" starting next month. Says the team needs more collaboration, which is code for "we miss se...
My son is 8 and has always been sensitive to transitions but lately it's ramped up. He gets quiet and clingy the day before he comes to me, won't engage with his mom, and then on pickup day he's emotional. Therapist says some anxiety around transitions is normal but this feels like it's getting in t...
My 4yo asked this yesterday and I completely fumbled it. Just said "because mommy and daddy live in different places" and changed the subject. He seemed confused. How do you even explain this to a preschooler? My ex and I haven't really talked about how to approach this conversation together and I f...
So I've been trying to do my job from home while my son naps and after bedtime, but our daycare is closed Wednesdays for staff training. Yesterday I had back-to-back client calls scheduled and my kid decided that was the perfect time to have a meltdown because I wouldn't let him eat dog food. I mute...
My 4yo daughter refuses to get her haircut without absolute screaming. We've tried the "be brave" talk, we've tried picking out a fun shirt to wear, nothing works. I know other parents who use a small toy reward after and it works instantly but I feel weird about it? Like am I setting up bad habits?...
Been working on this for like 6 months. He'd get frustrated and just ask me to do it. Today he just... did it. Took him 3 minutes and the loops were kinda wonky but I didn't say anything. Just watched him walk to school with the biggest smile on his face. That's the stuff, man.
Got the senior role I've been gunning for, but it's 2 weeks/month travel. My youngest starts kindergarten in August. I keep telling myself the money is worth it, the prestige, the resume builder... but I'm picturing myself at another conference while she's at her first day without me there. My wife ...
So I've got a Model 3 and getting a carseat installed in the backseat is a NIGHTMARE. The seat belt routing is weird, the car is narrow, and the angle is off. I've tried three different seats. Just installed a Britax Marathon and I still feel like it's not quite right. Anyone else dealing with this?...
