Spent last Saturday with my son building a treehouse in our backyard. Nothing fancy, just 2x4s, some rope, and a platform about 8 feet up. He was so excited picking out the wood at Home Depot. We worked until lunch and then again in the afternoon. My back is killing me but seeing his face when he cl...
My youngest opened a door for an older lady at the grocery store yesterday and she seemed genuinely surprised. When did basic manners become so rare? Teaching my boys that respect for women isn't weakness, it's strength. You stand when a lady enters the room. You don't interrupt. You listen. These a...
5 years ago I was sitting on the couch every night drinking beer and playing video games. Then my daughter was born and something just clicked. I didn't want to be the dad who got winded playing catch. Started walking, then running, cut out the junk. Now I do 5ks and actually have energy to keep up ...
Found out from my 12 year old that mom's been telling him I don't pay enough child support and that's why they can't get a new car. That money is literally being taken from my paycheck and she's getting it. I'm furious but I know if I rant to him about her it just makes things worse. How do you guys...
Told my kids we're having a surprise for dinner and my oldest goes what is it and I said if I told you it wouldn't be a surprise. He thinks for a second and goes then how do you know what to make. Got me. Absolutely got me. I have no comeback.
Finally got a second monitor, new chair, and cable management done. Wife said it looks like a "command center" which I think was a compliment? Either way I've got a solid 45 minutes most nights after the kids are down to get some gaming in. Currently playing through Elden Ring for the second time.
Need advice on this one. Every time I try to talk to my ex about the kids school or health stuff she gets defensive and thinks I'm criticizing her. I don't mean it that way at all. Just last week I mentioned our son's teacher said he needs help with math and she flipped out saying I was implying she...
So we rented a cabin at a state park thinking it would be camping lite. Oldest gets carsick, middle one forgot his favorite stuffed animal 45 minutes in, youngest woke up at 5 AM asking for cereal that we forgot. Rain all day Saturday. My wife and I drank beer out of thermoses and laughed at how bad...
Gonna try making dough from scratch Saturday and let the kids pick their own toppings. My 8yo wants pineapple and pepperoni which is a crime but whatever. My 5yo wants just cheese which is boring but at least easy. Anyone have a good pizza dough recipe that isn't too complicated? Want to make it fun...
My 10 year old's buddy said 'your dad is actually pretty cool' when I let them stay up late to build that epic blanket fort in the living room and brought them pizza. I'm never washing my hands again. That's it. That's the peak. It's all downhill from here and I'm okay with that.
Planning to take the family camping next month for the first time. Kids are 6 and 9. Thinking about renting a cabin instead of tent camping because honestly I'm not trying to deal with bathroom situations in the middle of the night at a campsite. Anyone else start with cabins before going full tent ...
Been dreading these games because my kid gets really anxious about sports but today something clicked. He scored a goal in the second half and the smile on his face when he ran back to us on the sideline... man that's going to stick with me forever. He's already asking when the next game is. This is...
Made it a point to teach my boys to be gentlemen around their mother and sister. Opening doors, pulling out chairs, helping without being asked. Not trying to make them soft, just teaching them that strength and respect go hand in hand. The way you treat the women in your life shows the world what k...
Been thinking a lot about what my father taught me and what I want to pass down. Told my 9 and 12 year old that being a man means showing up for people even when it's hard, keeping your word, and treating everyone with respect regardless of who they are. They rolled their eyes but I caught them bein...
New manager at my company is all about cutting corners to hit numbers. I told him I'm not doing it that way and I'd rather step back. Lost some bonuses but I sleep well at night. My team respects me more now and honestly the work is better. You can't build anything real on a bad foundation. A man's ...
