So Ive been obsessed with the idea of building a wood fired pizza oven in the backyard. Started laying the brick foundation last Saturday and got about halfway done before running out of time. Its not as hard as I thought but man is it tedious. The plan is to have it functional by spring. Anyone bui...
Been working with him all summer and today it finally clicked. He rode about 50 feet down the driveway before bailing but he didn't even cry. Just got back up and wanted to do it again. My wife got it on video and I must have watched it 20 times already. Feeling pretty good right now.
I've got two sons and I want to make sure they grow up with strong values. I teach them to take responsibility for their mistakes, to be honest even when it's hard, to help people without asking for credit. I try to show them through my actions more than my words. I work on my marriage like it matte...
My 12 year old has been trying to beat me for like two years and she finally did it last night. I could tell she was shocked for a second and then just started screaming and running around the house telling everyone. Let her have it because watching her celebrate was worth more than winning. Growing...
Been working with a buddy for five years and we were close. Recently found out he was treating one of the younger guys on the team like garbage behind closed doors. Called him out on it privately and he didn't take it well. Now things are awkward but I can't pretend I didn't see it. Honor means doin...
Dad passed five years ago but I find myself using his lessons constantly. He taught me that a man's word is his bond, that you look people in the eye when you speak to them, and that you own your mistakes without excuses. I'm trying to pass that same backbone onto my boys. He'd be proud of the men t...
Had a conversation with a younger guy about marriage and he was complaining about his wife in front of everyone like she wasn't there. Told him straight up that's not how you carry yourself as a man. You protect her dignity, you speak about her with reverence, you make decisions together. Marriage i...
So I'm not a dancer. I'm awkward and self conscious about it normally. My 9 year old asked me weeks ago to be her partner for the father daughter dance at school and I was dreading it honestly. But tonight we got out there and she was so happy just having me there trying my best. We did the dumbest ...
He studied so hard for this math test and was genuinely anxious about it. I tried to help where I could but mostly just tried to keep him calm and confident. Teacher emailed me today that he got an A. When I told him his face just lit up. He actually believed in himself enough to put in the work and...
I've been trying to take better care of myself, like going to the gym or just having an hour to myself, but I feel guilty the whole time. Like I should be with the kids or helping my wife. How do you guys balance taking care of your own mental health without feeling like you're being selfish? Becaus...
I've been remote for 2 years now and I still feel like I'm not doing enough for my family OR my job. Like my 6yo will knock on my office door asking to play and I have to say no because I'm on a call, then I feel terrible the rest of the day. But if I'm not focused on work I'm worried my boss thinks...
Took me 3 weekends and way too many trips to Home Depot but we got it done. Kids helped with the small stuff which made it take longer but honestly it was worth it. They're so proud they helped build something. Now I just need to figure out how to keep them from destroying it.
Made homemade pizza with my kids yesterday and it was actually awesome. Let them pick toppings and stretch the dough. My oldest got really into it. Way more fun than I expected and everyone actually ate what they made. Definitely doing this again.
Used to be pretty selfish about my money and time. Didn't really think about retirement or college funds or any of that stuff. Had a kid and suddenly I'm comparing 529 plans and life insurance like it's my job. It's weird how this small person completely changed what matters to me. My friends withou...
Our custody agreement says either parent can pick up from school but my ex has been saying she's the primary parent so she should handle all pickups. Then when I try to do it she gets annoyed. I get that she was the one managing school stuff before the split but I want to stay involved. How do I han...
